Their has been a debate whether airlines should charge more for passengers that may take up more than one seat. It’s a controversial debate of course so the airlines most likely will not touch it. Although, If you plan on flying Uzbekistan Airways it may include a trip to the scale. The airline started a pre-flight weighing of passengers to determine the average weight of passengers and their carry-on luggage.
They claim that the procedure is strictly for research purposes and will aid the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in ensuring flight safety. Passengers will be asked to proceed through a weighing machine in the departure gate zone.
The airlines website claims that ror the first six months of 2015 Uzbekistan Airways aircraft performed 11,575 flights. 1 million 235 thousand passengers were carried by Uzbekistan Airways. 18,3 thousand tons of freight including paid baggage and mail were transported. Maybe they are “weighing” every detail? Honestly I am surprised that U.S. Airlines have not started weighing passengers because they are always looking for more ways to nickel and dime us on each flight.
The record of passenger weights will remain anonymous with the small airline. Instead of each weight measurement data stored per individual they will be categorized by gender or age, if the passenger is a child.
