This is one frequent flyer card that has many benefits that any cardholder will enjoy, but those who are frequent fliers of American Airlines will especially enjoy what this card has to offer. Cardholders will receive 30,000 bonus miles after making only $1,000 in purchases within the first three months of opening the account, with the ability to earn up to extra 10,000 miles per year with a bonus of 10% with the card. For every dollar spent using the card the consumer will receive one mile. Keep in mind tha the miles are normally 25,000 bonus miles instead of 30,000 so this is a special promotion.
The Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card normally has an annual fee of $95 but they are offering it waived for the first 12 months*. It carries an interest rate of 15.24%* Variable and there is no introductory rate available for this card. Included with your card is also travel accident insurance for you and your family, car rental insurance, lost luggage insurance, extended warranty options, and retail purchase protection. Unlike many other cards, this card offers no preset spending limit, meaning you won’t have to worry about how much you have available for purchases. You also get no blackout dates on American Airlines, AmericanConnection, and American Eagle carriers.
The platinum version of the card offers many more benefits than the gold offering. With the gold offering there is no annual fee and the interest rate can be as low as 13.24 percent. However, you will only get 2,500 bonus miles after spending $125 and only earn one half mile for every dollar that is spent on purchases. Cardholders can also only earn up to 25,000 miles per year. The Bronze card does offer the same travel protection packages and retail purchase protection as the gold card, as well as no preset spending limit.
Discover also offer a Miles card, but only offers double miles on your first $3,000 in card purchases used for travel and at restaurants. Like the gold branded card though, it does offer one mile for every dollar spent on the card but the amount is unlimited. Miles earned can be redeemed for travel, gift cards, donations to charity, and cash. There is no annual fee for the card and it also carries a six month introductory rate of zero percent on purchases and balance transfers. The interest rate after the introductory period will be from 11.99 to 18.99 percent. Although it also offers 1,000 bonus miles for every month the cardholder makes a purchase during the first year, it still doesn’t compare to the miles you can earn with the platinum version of the card.
Citibank also offers a Platinum AAdvantage card that enables the cardholder to earn up to 30,000 American Airlines bonus miles by making $750 in purchases over the first four months. There is a limit of 100,000 miles per year that can be redeemed for American Airlines, AmericanConnection, and American Eagle carriers. There is also no preset spending limit on this card and it offers the same travel and retail purchase protection as the platinum version of the card along with a concierge service and free international cell phone rental. You earn one bonus mile for every dollar spent as well. The membership fee is $95 per year (waived the first year) and the base interest rate is 15.24 percent with no introductory rate.
The platinum version looks like a preferred choice for those who fly on American Airlines frequently. It offers the ability to earn more miles than other similar cards except for it’s Platinum card, but the interest rate on the Gold card is lower and the annual fee is also less. Anyone who uses credit cards for purchases and is a regular customer of American Airlines should strongly consider looking into acquiring this credit card.
