Visa Black Card Vs. Amex Platinum

The Visa Black Card is often compared to the American Express Centurion Card. However, the only thing that these cards really have in common is the fact that they are both black. The Visa Black Card really has more in common with the American Express Platinum Card. By comparing these similar cards you can see the difference that sets these cards apart.

The Visa Black card is an actual credit card, while the American Express Platinum card is actually a charge card. What this means is the Amex balance has to be paid in full at the end of each month. The Visa card just requires the minimum monthly payment. The Visa Black Card is offered to approximately one percent of the population. Some Visa card owners were able to have their card automatically upgraded, while others received invitations to receive the card. There is a possibility of people being approved for this card that may not have had the best credit or exceptional income. To receive an Amex Platinum card, a consumer normally needs to have an income of at least $100,000 per year as well as excellent credit.

The Visa Black has a yearly fee of $495, while the Amex Platinum is $450. Both cards offer a 24 hour concierge service, which is like having your own personal assistant. They can help with shopping, dining arrangements, travel arrangements, and entertainment to make the cardholders life easier.

Both cards offer travel accident insurance, emergency travel service finances, medical and legal services. The Visa Black card holder receives $250,000 worth of insurance, while a Platinum card holder gets up to $500,000. The Platinum card also gives consumers up to $2000 worth of insurance for their baggage. Visa Black card holders get $100 a day for up to three days should their baggage be delayed.

There is also a big difference in purchase protection between these two cards. Problems with any purchases made by a Visa Black card holder can qualify for a $500 reimbursement within 90 days after the date of purchase. An American Express Platinum customer has the same 90 day policy but will be covered for up to $10,000 per occurrence and up to $50,000 per year.

The Visa Black Card does have a nice rewards program, however. All purchases qualify for one percent cash back, or you can get exceptional mileage redemption with no blackouts or restrictions on any airline. The card also offers its customers gifts from some of the world’s best brands, as well as VIP Airport Lounge Access to over 600 airport lounges across the globe. The minimum credit limit is only $5000. The American Express Platinum card also has a rewards program, although Visa’s seems to offer more. The Amex card also includes airport lounge access, and there is no pre-set spending limit.

Each of these cards has its benefits and drawbacks when compared to one another. The choice is in what the consumer prefers in regards to what the most important aspects of the card is to them as an individual.
