RxPass – Pay $5/month & Get Unlimited Generic Drugs Free from Amazon

RxPass – Pay $5/month & Get Unlimited Generic Drugs Free from Amazon

Amazon announced the launch of a drug subscription program called RxPass, a Prime membership add-on which costs $5 per month. RxPass is part of Amazon pharmacy and offers free unlimited medications from a select list. Medications that treat more than 80 common conditions, such as high blood pressure, anxiety, sleep disorders, acid reflux and even erectile dysfunction, are included in the RxPass subscription. Almost half of all U.S. residents take one of the medications available in this program.

You’ll get unlimited medications delivered free to your door; you just have to pay the $5 monthly fee and then unlimited medications are available to you at no cost. You first need to be a Prime member which comes with a cost of $139/year or $14.99/month. Go here for a 30-Day Free Trial for a Family Membership or a Free 6-Month Student membership.

Lots of popular medications are on this list, there are even some supplements there like Vitamin B12 and Biotin. Apparently those can get prescribed by a doctor.

RxPass can be a real moneysaver for many people, especially for someone who already pays for Prime as this will only cost them $5 extra per month. This can be a deal for someone who takes even one medication from the list, and can be major savings for someone who takes multiple of these medications.

I switched to using Amazon Pharmacy a while back and have been happy with them. I’ll save some money with an RxPass subscription plan for my one monthly subscription which I found on the list. I’ve found it worthwhile to pay their prices without using insurance since, ironically, it’s about half the cost without insurance versus with insurance. The Amazon system lets me choose whether to go through insurance or buy it directly without involving insurance.

Note: RxPass does restrict eligibility based on insurance and the state where medications will be shipped. People with government-funded insurance such as Medicare or Medicaid are not eligible sign up for RxPass right now. Additionally, RxPass is not currently available to send medications to California, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. Amazon Pharmacy is still available in all of those states.

RxPass is a money-loser for Amazon, but will bring over new customers to Amazon Pharmacy.

You can find the full list of around 60 medications on the homepage. Go here to see the best credit cards to use at Drugstoes and Pharmacies or to use at Amazon here.

Make sure to compare to other programs such as Cost Plus Drugs that Mark Cuban launched as one reader observed. We tried Amazon pharmacy and have no complaints. The prices are usually better than places like CVS and somewhat comparable to Costco. That said, I did switch my medications to Mark Cuban’s innovation, even with the $5 shipping it ended up being cheaper than Amazon with my two generics clocking in at ~$6 and ~$8 for 90 day supplies: This can be found at Cost Plus Drugs.

A con to this program is that It looks like each adult would have to have their own Prime Membership in order to take advantage of this. Prescriptions for multiple people can’t be combined on one Pharmacy profile except for children under 18.

What’s included with Chase Freedom Flex Q1 2023 bonus categories?

There’s often some confusion about what purchases qualify with the bonus categories, so let me recap Chase’s definitions.

Here’s whats included with the grocery store bonus category:

Merchants in the Grocery Stores category include supermarkets, merchants that offer a full service grocery line of merchandise including a deli and bakery as well as smaller grocery stores. Some merchants that sell grocery items are not included in this category; for example, larger stores that sell a wide variety of goods, such as Target, Walmart, discount stores, warehouse clubs, and some smaller merchants such as drugstores and merchants that specialize in only a few grocery items. Purchases made at gas stations from merchants who also operate grocery stores are not included in this category. Delivery service merchants will not be included in this category unless the merchant has set up such purchases to be classified in the grocery stores category.

Here’s what’s included with the Target bonus category:

Purchases in the ‘Target’ category include purchases at Target stores, Target.com, Target branded gas stations operated by Target, and any other Target branded retail stores operated by Target. Please note, merchants operating within or on Target premises such as merchants that sell fast food, beauty services, and gas stations that are not Target branded are not included in this category. Target affiliate businesses and local delivery merchants are also not included in this category. Purchases in the Target category, including grocery purchases, will earn a total of 5% cash back.

Here’s what’s included with the fitness clubs and gym memberships category:

Merchants in the Fitness Clubs and Gym Memberships category include health clubs, exercise, or athletic facilities requiring membership and offering access to services related to physical fitness, such as fitness clubs, fitness centers, fitness studios, gyms, aerobics, cardio fitness and other services such as yoga and cross fit training. Merchants that specialize in offering personalized or therapeutic services such as massage therapy, dietary and weight management counseling and personal training are not included in this category. In addition, some merchants that sell a wide variety of general goods, which may include fitness or athletic apparel, sporting goods, dietary food, health food or similar supplements are not included in this category.

Also, certain lodging, hotel, motel, resort and central reservation services offering access to third party facilities that include fitness clubs or gyms are not included in this category unless the merchant has set up such purchases to be classified in this category.

Costco accepts what credit cards?

costco-amex

Costco has the largest overall membership base of the bulk wholesale clubs with more than 90 million members. They are best known for the bulk family-sized and commercial grocery offerings, it also offers savings on gas, electronics, clothing, and electronics.

One major con with Costco is that your credit card may not be accepted at checkout but you will most likely find that out when purchasing a membership.

Credit cards accepted at Costco

When you shop at Costco, you can use the warehouse club’s co-branded card, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi, as well as any other credit card backed by the Visa network.

Here are some credit cards that can be used at Costco warehouses:

Credit cards not accepted at Costco

Since Costco has an exclusive contract with Visa, shoppers can’t use credit cards backed by the other three main networks — American Express, Mastercard and Discover — at Costco warehouses. However, you’re able to pay with Mastercard and Discover cards for purchases made at Costco.com and the Costco app.

Here are some cards that can be used online or via the Costco app:

Does Costco accept Discover card at the warehouse?

Costco does not accept Discover credit cards as a form of payment at the warehouse in-person. You can use it online.

Does Costco accept AMEX?

Costco stopped accepting American Express as a form of payment at its warehouses and gas stations. However, American Express may still be accepted at Costco-affiliated businesses such as Costco Travel or at certain Costco locations outside of the United States. I would recommend checking with the specific location you plan to visit to confirm their accepted forms of payment.

Costco U.S. accounts for 8% (10% worldwide) of spending on American Express cards overall right now but it appears the agreement will end on in 2016. Warehouse club retailer Costco Wholesale Corp will stop accepting American Express credit cards after a 15 partnership at U.S. stores and the loss of Costco would reduce spending on AmEx cards by about $80 billion a year, including their use at businesses other than Costco’s 468 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.
