Uber’s Flat Fare Ride Package (now called Ride Pass) is available in ten major cities now including Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. You can get access to these really cheap rides by paying a one-time activation fee of $5 to $20 then riding flat-fare rides of only $5.99 to $20 for 40 flat-fare rides. The flat fares vary by city, but overall, they’re dirt cheap. UberPool rides start at just $1.99, and UberX rides start at $3.99.
An example would be in Dallas where they are charging $5 to activate the flat fare for 30 days then it’s only $5.99 a ride. Dallas seems to be one of the cheaper cities so that we have seen. We mean ridiculously cheap.
If you haven’t yet signed up for Uber then you can save even more towards your next ride. Register here to get a $20 credit for Uber towards a Free Ride. Use promotion code “UberVip4me“
How Cheap Are Uber’s Flat Fares?
You must choose a city to activate your flat-fare deal so do not expect these fares on vacation in another city unless you sign up for that city as well. Also, your rides must stay within your city’s designated zone, and some airports are excluded from those areas. For example, in Dallas the DFW and Dallas Love Field are regular price and do not include the Flat-Fare Pricing. You’ll pay your activation fee immediately, but your special pricing will stay active for 30 days (or until you use all your rides).
Here’s the full list of fares. Don’t forget to add that activation fee of either $5, $10 or $20 when doing your own math:
Boston: $4.99 UberX rides
Chicago: $4.49 UberX rides
Dallas: $5.99 UberX rides
Los Angeles:$3.99 UberX rides
Miami: $4.99 UberX rides
New York City: $5.99 UberX rides
San Diego: $4.99 UberX rides
San Francisco: $4.99 UberX rides
Seattle: $4.49 UberX rides
Washington, D.C.: $4.49 UberX rides
Should You Pay Upfront for Cheap Uber Rides?
Absolutely. One ride would probably pay for the offer to make it worth it. The designated flat-fare zones are wide and cover most of the areas people go clubbing in or practically anywhere but the airports. We have yet to test out if drivers get alerted on the flat fares and may not pick you up because maybe they make less money? That would seem to be the main issue of if they try and add on surge pricing. Even if you take a few rides on Uber a month and go over 10 miles this seems like a good deal compared to their normal UberX pricing especially without any other offers going on right now with partners such as Quicksilver. We really have to wonder how Uber is able to make these rides so cheap for 30 days!
My personal experience is that I have saved over $300 using Ride Pass (formerly flat fares). I honestly am not sure how Uber is making any money from my trips. Uber certainly makes money when I travel because you can only get the Ride Pass in one city during a certain sign-up time each month I have noticed. I have marked my calendar each month to look for the Ride Pass in my app so I don’t miss it.
Dallas Area Update – July 31, 2017: I’ve saved over $924 using the Ride Pass in the Dallas area. This comes out to over $155 a month with only paying $5 for each 28 day pass. Uber has also offered me the pass one day before August so that I can continue saving only raising the price of the rides $1. The price before was $5.99 and now it’s $6.99. I imagine they will raise it each month because they are ultimately losing money on frequent users such as myself. See below for my total savings and what the email looks like you would receive to activate the Ride Pass each month:
Ibotta is one of my go-to apps to coupon these days. The days of cutting coupons should be over for most as it’s too time consuming. The smartphone app lets you earn cashback when you purchase anything from grocery items to electronics to meals.
New on the Ibotta app is a $1 rebate when you take an Uber ride. We use Uber frequently on our travels which saves us from all the hassles of rental cars and fees.
To earn the $1 cash back, download Ibotta (YOU GET $10 to start you off with Referral Code UNCVEUI) AND Uber app, open Ibotta and search for Uber under stores. You’ll then need to click on Uber, which will open your Uber app THROUGH the Ibotta app when you are ready to hail a car.
You’ll need to take your Uber ride within three hours of opening Uber through the Ibotta app to earn your $1. This is only valid for rides in the U.S. You may realize $1 is not a lot, but it adds up when you use Ibotta or Uber a lot. You can also stack this Ibotta $1 and $5 bonus offers with existing Uber Ride Passes and Starwood points earned with the app. (more…)
Raise is an online discounted gift card store which is running a promotion on Uber Gift Cards. For a limited amount of time Raise is offering $10 off a $20 purchase of Uber Gift Cards for new customers only. Just use promo code: UBER5 add checkout to receive your discount. This is a great deal because you save more than half-off because Raise already includes at least 2% savings.
Don’t make the mistake I did and sign-up for a Raise account using a $5 Referral Bonus if you plan to get the $10 off on this Uber promotion. It will not allow you to use both. You will have to delete the $5 Referral after you sign-up.
New Yorkers have always had the convenience of hailing a cab easily for the most part and never really a need for someone in Manhattan to have rideshare as much as someone living in Houston or Miami. Now they are even more spoiled and so spoiled now with ride share apps that you really don’t even have to take the subway as much with apps like Via. Black is definitely becoming the new Yellow and this is not a trend. You even see less yellow cabbies on the streets now that Uber has dominated the market. Black is the new yellow. With over 15,000 black and luxury cars operating in the five boroughs compared to around 13,500 medallion cabs it is unstoppable. First we hated cabs that overcharged with steep prices but now as Uber and Lyft are charging outrageous surge rates we always need as many alternative apps as we can fit on our phone for a ride.
Uber ($20 off), Lyft ($50 off), Gett and Via are the top NYC taxi alternatives and we also found some newbies.
30% Off Rides with Juno – currently in “beta” but that is a GOOD THING. They are preparing to disrupt the New York City ride share app market currently dominated by Uber and Lyft. Juno launched a beta app which gives 30% off rides + no surge fees in New York City (that’s 30% off of Uber’s prices using our link). This was my favorite app to use while in NYC because it was the cheapest without being restricted to certain areas. I could hail a Juno from a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen and ride over to the 9/11 Memorial or to Central Park without having to pay the higher prices the other apps charge. Juno rideshare also offers rides as of now at JFK and LGA airports. You also get the beta discount of at least 10% off Uber until June 2019 on these rides and 30% off the first two weeks with our link! If you refer friends you get 30% off Rides for an additional two weeks.
Gett-Gett looks to become the new ride-sharing game-changer with absolutely no “ surge pricing.” They are known to offer $10 for any ride in Manhattan south of 110th Street which is a relative bargain also if your trip rings in under that threshold then you pay the lower price. Tips can be pre-set for zero percent to 20 percent. The driver waits for free for three minutes, and you’ll be charged $1/min after that. An extra stop costs $5. Best yet, there’s no surge pricing—ever. You can pick from Gett Standard, Gett Premium, Gett SUV, and Gett Deal where you have drivers Active in 30-plus cities (Tel Aviv, London, and Moscow included), Gett, which used to go by GetTaxi, arrived in NYC in 2013, though its recent $10 deal has raised its profile along with the new $50 off offer. According to CNBC, it has a fleet of over 2,000 vehicles serving NYC. March 2017 Update: We changed the promo offer above for $50 off. Get $5 off your next 10 rides which is $50 in value. Gett has also added firm quotes that will now include taxes along with the upfront pricing they had already provided with No ranges or estimates. Tolls, surcharges, and optional tip aren’t included. Jan 2019 Update – We prefer Juno in NYC and think that Gett is out of the US Market and only in Europe now. We cannot seem to sign into our Gett account as it will not send us a confirmation number.
April 29, 2017 Update: On-demand ride service Gett confirms acquisition of Juno
The competitive landscape for transportation apps has become a little smaller today. Gett has announced that it has acquired Juno, a rival in the New York market. The ride-hailing industry just got a whole lot more interesting with Uber (Goliath) vs Lyft (David) no longer being the big players in town. A third and very credible player is suddenly in the picture with this merger. Gett has the support and a $300 million investment from the world’s largest automaker, Volkswagen. Gett already has a presence in 100 cities in Europe. This move positions them to establish a competitive United States presence beyond their current footprint in New York City.
Via – Considered an On-Demand Transit which is basically an alternative to the subway with carpooling which seems to really be catching on in the NYC area. If you sign up with my code, dj9i7, we’ll both get $10 of free Via Credit. You can download the app here. It’ll only cost $2.25 more than the subway and you can avoid waiting in the hot subway stations this summer. While it’s dirt cheap to use Via it is a bit awkward with others in the car if you are used to taking private cars. It also does not run after midnight for those of you going out for late night fun in the city that never sleeps.
YayYo claims to be a rideshare cost compare tool where you can evolve beyond surge pricing and “always get the cheapest quote”.
They are currently offering 2 free ride credits and a bonus of 2,000 miles in their YayMiles Program. The catch is the app has not launched yet but it does not hurt to sign up and not miss out on this new travel tool.
YayYo hopes to be a single sign-on meta search app for your smartphone that provides price comparison and booking of eventually all available ridesharing and taxi services along with select limousine and public transportation services. The YayYo service also claims to offer all the convenience you expect plus unique benefits and conveniences not available from Uber, Lyft or taxi services alone. We have seen similar apps that have come and gone but hopefully this one is here to stay if they make the right agreements with Uber, Lyft and others such as up and coming Juno and Gett.
Sign up for YayYo with Promo Code 4TMQT and get 2 free ride credits when they launch and 200 free miles. The app is now in the market but is not booking rides yet. (more…)
The new sharing economy is bringing a surplus of new jobs that were unheard of before thanks to technology and the dying breed of rude taxi cabs. Extra income working a part time job driving a new or partially used car can bring in some big bucks especially with a good attitude.
