Alaska recently offered 10,000 bonus miles to anyone who had both an Alaska Mileage Plan and Virgin America Elevate account, and then linked them. They seem to still be doing that for some and anyone may be able to take advantage of this. If you are not yet a member of the Alaska Mileage Plan they have a fantastic new member bonus going on where you can earn 5,000 bonus Mileage Plan miles.
You just need to enroll here between March 23 and April 30, 2017, and complete an Alaska or Virgin America flight by September 30, 2017.
To qualify, the member must book a ticket eligible for earning Mileage Plan miles, and must credit it to their Mileage Plan account. You can receive the bonus a maximum of one time, and it’s not valid with any other Mileage Plan enrollment bonus.
Alaska has a long list of great airline partners where you can redeem miles for premium cabin travel. 5,000 miles is enough for a one-way ticket covering up to 700 flown miles. This is about $75 or so worth of free miles.
Flight Deal on DAL to LAX Nonstop Flights: $135 R/T on Virgin America
Speaking of Virgin America who is now owned by Alaska Airlines they are offering an amazing flight deal from DAL to LAX.
Virgin America has round-trip flights from Dallas (DAL) to Los Angeles (LAX) for $135. These are NON-STOP and only $68 each-way. These are for flights on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday in late April and May. This deal will end soon so act on it now and you will be earning miles that will eventually turn into Alaska Mileage pLan miles!

The year started out with a big surprise for many members of Alaska Air’s Mileage Plan. They received an email saying they could link their mileage earning program to Virgin America and get a free 10,000 miles added to their account and the elite status. I was not signed up with Alaska Airlines when I heard about this offer so I quickly signed up and I was also able to get the free 10,000 miles and elite status match.
If you are a Virgin America Elevate member you can go here to the Alaska Mileage Plan. This follows Alaska’s takeover of Virgin America which closed a few weeks ago and gives a look at what their combined their loyalty programs will look like.
After I signed up I received an email saying:

You should notice the 10,000 bonus miles appearing in your accounts with the description “SPECIAL SERVICES ELEVATE MEMBER OTO 10K BONUS.”
I did have some trouble getting the form to work online and process correctly so I had to call in to the customer service number for Mileage Plan but that only took a few minutes. It was absolutely worth the trouble for MVP status with Alaska Airlines and 10,000 free miles. With the 30% bonus on transferred miles from Virgin America I plan on transferring them all to Alaska.

Virgin America was added as Starwood’s newest transfer partner with a solid 1:1 ratio. Compare that to the American Express Membership Rewards transfer ratio which is 2:1. To celebrate the new partnership, Virgin America is having a contest, along with Starwood, to win a trip to Hawaii and you can earn 250 Virgin America Elevate points just for entering.
1. If not in Virgin America take a minute to sign up for 500 bonus points here.
2. You can enter this promotion to get at least 250 points by filing out the form (takes 30 seconds) on MakeYourHawaiiscape.com by May 27, 2016. The prizes for the contest seem pretty solid as well including airfare and hotel for a trip to Oahu or Maui. Everyone who enters the contest gets 250 points. Tip: You don’t actually have to fill out a reason why you need a vacation, just select one from the list. Easy as that.

Of course right now both companies are starting their merger process with the takeover companies such as Marriott with Starwood and Virgin America with Alaska so you can think of it as points for the new Alaska Air. The Virgin America points could be worth more after the merger goes through and turn into 250 or 500 Alaska miles down the road, depending on the final conversion of Virgin America points to Alaska MileagePlan miles.

When you see an opportunity to earn extra bonus points or miles for doing almost nothing you should always take them up on the offer while it lasts. Even if you do not fly the airline often or if they are not in your city yet. You never know when Virgin America could be in your city. They are offering 500 free points just for joining their airline loyalty program.
Virgin America’s promotion is called “Flights With Benefits,” and through it you can earn 500 bonus points for joining their rewards program called Elevate. You can also earn 500 bonus points for referring your friends to Elevate up to a maximum of 2,500 bonus points or 5 people.

Virgin America Elevate points are worth around 2.2 cents each towards the cost of a revenue ticket on Virgin America, so 500 Elevate points are worth around $11. This is similar to the value of Southwest airline points which would be higher than American Airlines per redemption.
Once you get your free Elevate points from Virgin America keep in mind that they expire after 18 months of inactivity. One way to rack up additional points is through American Express Membership Rewards transfers with a current promotional transfer bonus of 50%. You can also earn with over 700 retailers in their Elevate Fly Store online earning up to 10 points per $1.
