Right now with Discover It you are earning a full 5% back at Sam’s Club plus another 5% online offer in Discover Deals. Put those two stackable offers together for this quarter and it’s hard to beat. I ordered a garage door opener from those links and cards.
Discover It is also bringing back the restaurants for the next quarter. This comes a quarter later than 2016 when we would already be saving 5% back on dining. We are surprised Chase Freedom has not mentioned any bonus yet for dining out.
Discover released a sneak peek at the 5% cash back bonus categories for July through December 2017. You’ll earn the bonus on everyday purchases at restaurants, Amazon, and more!
There are many banks and credit unions to get your miles, points, and cash back from. If you want to maximize your points and miles you better start the right way especially because some banks count applications against you. The one bank in general with some of the best credit cards is Chase bank.
Chase knows they monopolize some of the hottest credit cards and we actually broke news back in the day they came out with the Freedom Card before any other site. It’s been one of the best cards of all-time with the quarterly bonuses. What Chase does is limit your approval based on how many cards you’ve applied for in the past with the “5/24 rule.”
We recommend you apply for a Chase Credit Card first before any other card because of the strict rule they mandated over a year ago. Grab a few Chase Cards then as soon as they accept you go for the gold with all the other fantastic cards on the market such as Discover It.
What does 5/24 rule mean?
It’s more of a credit card insider term meaning they typically won’t approve you for some of their cards if you’ve opened more than five accounts in the past 24 months. The following cards are subjected to this rule:
TopCashback is one of the highest paying shopping networks for getting cash back when buying things from stores such as Macy’s, Best Buy, Amazon, and more. When you compare across sites such as Ebates, Befrugal, and MainStreet Shares most of the time you will find this one as the top earning cashback site. As an incentive to join before they are offering new members a $5 Amazon Gift Card sign-up bonus when you join using this link. (more…)
New Yorkers have always had the convenience of hailing a cab easily for the most part and never really a need for someone in Manhattan to have rideshare as much as someone living in Houston or Miami. Now they are even more spoiled and so spoiled now with ride share apps that you really don’t even have to take the subway as much with apps like Via. Black is definitely becoming the new Yellow and this is not a trend. You even see less yellow cabbies on the streets now that Uber has dominated the market. Black is the new yellow. With over 15,000 black and luxury cars operating in the five boroughs compared to around 13,500 medallion cabs it is unstoppable. First we hated cabs that overcharged with steep prices but now as Uber and Lyft are charging outrageous surge rates we always need as many alternative apps as we can fit on our phone for a ride.
Uber ($20 off), Lyft ($50 off), Gett and Via are the top NYC taxi alternatives and we also found some newbies.
30% Off Rides with Juno – currently in “beta” but that is a GOOD THING. They are preparing to disrupt the New York City ride share app market currently dominated by Uber and Lyft. Juno launched a beta app which gives 30% off rides + no surge fees in New York City (that’s 30% off of Uber’s prices using our link). This was my favorite app to use while in NYC because it was the cheapest without being restricted to certain areas. I could hail a Juno from a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen and ride over to the 9/11 Memorial or to Central Park without having to pay the higher prices the other apps charge. Juno rideshare also offers rides as of now at JFK and LGA airports. You also get the beta discount of at least 10% off Uber until June 2019 on these rides and 30% off the first two weeks with our link! If you refer friends you get 30% off Rides for an additional two weeks.
Gett-Gett looks to become the new ride-sharing game-changer with absolutely no “ surge pricing.” They are known to offer $10 for any ride in Manhattan south of 110th Street which is a relative bargain also if your trip rings in under that threshold then you pay the lower price. Tips can be pre-set for zero percent to 20 percent. The driver waits for free for three minutes, and you’ll be charged $1/min after that. An extra stop costs $5. Best yet, there’s no surge pricing—ever. You can pick from Gett Standard, Gett Premium, Gett SUV, and Gett Deal where you have drivers Active in 30-plus cities (Tel Aviv, London, and Moscow included), Gett, which used to go by GetTaxi, arrived in NYC in 2013, though its recent $10 deal has raised its profile along with the new $50 off offer. According to CNBC, it has a fleet of over 2,000 vehicles serving NYC. March 2017 Update: We changed the promo offer above for $50 off. Get $5 off your next 10 rides which is $50 in value. Gett has also added firm quotes that will now include taxes along with the upfront pricing they had already provided with No ranges or estimates. Tolls, surcharges, and optional tip aren’t included. Jan 2019 Update – We prefer Juno in NYC and think that Gett is out of the US Market and only in Europe now. We cannot seem to sign into our Gett account as it will not send us a confirmation number.
April 29, 2017 Update: On-demand ride service Gett confirms acquisition of Juno
The competitive landscape for transportation apps has become a little smaller today. Gett has announced that it has acquired Juno, a rival in the New York market. The ride-hailing industry just got a whole lot more interesting with Uber (Goliath) vs Lyft (David) no longer being the big players in town. A third and very credible player is suddenly in the picture with this merger. Gett has the support and a $300 million investment from the world’s largest automaker, Volkswagen. Gett already has a presence in 100 cities in Europe. This move positions them to establish a competitive United States presence beyond their current footprint in New York City.
Via – Considered an On-Demand Transit which is basically an alternative to the subway with carpooling which seems to really be catching on in the NYC area. If you sign up with my code, dj9i7, we’ll both get $10 of free Via Credit. You can download the app here. It’ll only cost $2.25 more than the subway and you can avoid waiting in the hot subway stations this summer. While it’s dirt cheap to use Via it is a bit awkward with others in the car if you are used to taking private cars. It also does not run after midnight for those of you going out for late night fun in the city that never sleeps.
Trim is a free service that offers automated statement credits to your Visa credit or debit card when you connect your card, activate cashback coupons via Facebook Messenger, and make qualifying purchases on your card at participating retailers or in select shopping categories. It not only monitors your credit cards but your bank accounts to help cut down on unnecessary bills or overpaying.
Save up to $40 in Bonus Statement Credits
You can earn $40 in bonus statement credits on your everyday purchases when you sign up for Trim. After linking your Visa card you get a grocery offer then after activating that offer in Facebook Messenger they send two more offers. Here are some example offers:

Trim Remembers To Cancel “Free Trials” So You Don’t Get Charged
While some may love the bonus incentives to use Trim they offer some possibly really helpful services as well. Trim also helps you cancel unwanted Credit Card Subscriptions. If you are like me you sign up for tons of “free trial offers” such as Netflix and Hulu then lose track of all the subscription services that are registered with what promotion. Trim can easily find and cancel unwanted credit card subscriptions. Trim finds all the subscriptions on your credit card or debit card such as Amazon Prime or Google Play renewing then sends you a list of them in a text message and then cancels the ones you don’t want.
Save on Your Cable Bill
Trim is offering an exclusive Comcast cost-cutting service. Perhaps, this will keep you from cord-cutting if you save money with your cable bill. Trim will monitor your Comcast bill and use chat to get reductions. They basically negotiate your rate and you pay 25% of the first bill’s reductions so if they save you $10 per month then you’ll pay $2.50. That certainly beats calling into the cable service but we recommend you do that every 6 months or so anyway no matter what the hassle to get deeper discounted rates or promotions. We hope they expand to include Spectrum and other cable providers such as Cox Communications.
Statement Credits for Targeted Visa Transactions
Trim also offers a card link program as part of Visa Trial Link. When you link your Visa card with Trim, you’ll get targeted cash back offers in the form of a statement credit. This works with Visa cards only. Any account linked in Trim with the bank login should automatically be part of the card-link program (without inputting the card numbers) managed exclusively via Facebook messenger.
Should I Share My Login and Credit Card Information with Trim? Is it Safe?
The Login you give them is actually converted to a token where Trim only gets read-only access to your transaction data. They cannot move money or make any changes to your account. You can revoke their read-only access token at any time. They also use 256-bit SSL encryption for their website and all server-side databases using Amazon Web Services (AWS), a secure online data storage and hosting service that is used by the Department of Defense, NASA, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). They have stated that your data on our servers will never be accessed or used by any other party and they will not sell your data or use it in any way without your permission.
Conclusion
As a credit card and frugal nerd I am more than excited to give this service a go. I am not worried about sharing login information as I will be using a credit card that is not connected to a bank account. I will most likely use my Capital One Visa and Chase Freedom cards. My only worries are that this program will interfere with Rewards Network or Shell Fuel Rewards in which I get a big savings on my gas and that is much needed right now. I plan on testing this service out and seeing how it goes and writing more as I go along so make sure and bookmark this page or add us on Twitter and Facebook for updates.
