Uber Competitor Wingz Offers Non-Surge Ride Service with $10 Free Credits

uber competitor wingzYou know I’m a huge fan of Uber ride share and Lyft but I am not about their surge pricing which to me is my biggest complaint. The Free market system is about to take care of this at least with airport to and from rides. Wingz provides door-to-door rides going to and from the airport with private transportation and flat rates.

How to get $10 in Free Credits
1. You can get an instant Wingz $5 Free Credit when you sign up for a new Wingz account.
2. Another Bonus they are offering is a promo code to enter at checkout. You can’t enter until the ride is over but this gets you $5 off on top of the $5 you got for the link above. Just enter Promo Code HEART at checkout for an extra $5 discount. In Addition, you can earn additional $10 credits for each new user that you refer after they take their first ride just like Uber and Lyft.

The additional Five dollars off a ride you book this week is valid through the 14th of February.

A pro and a con to Wingz is that you must book at least 2 hours before your pickup time. You cannot do it last minute like you can with an Uber or Lyft but then again it’s nice to have something secure and someone waiting for you. In order to book a ride you must have the Airline and Flight number just like the rental car companies require or most people would like when they want to track when your plane comes in due to delays. It is similar to ridesharing apps in that you do not have to worry about tipping as it is already included. You have less a wait than an airport taxi and it all goes on your credit card to earn miles. Another great feature just added to Wingz is that it now works with TripIt to anticipate your airport transportation needs.

2017 News
Wingz has recently redesigned the online app to match their redesigned ios and Android apps. You can do bookings online for rides a few hours away and they do not have to be from or to the airport anymore. They have also announced that they will provide free rides to anyone caught up in the border situation going on right now. See below.

Wingz to Provide Free Transportation to those Affected by the Travel Ban (February 2017)

You’ve certainly heard about the recent closure of our borders to the incoming flow of travelers from seven different, predominantly Muslim, countries. One of the fundamental missions at Wingz has always been to create and foster lasting relationships between our riders and drivers, regardless of their faith, values, or nationalities. We at Wingz support the tenants of inclusivity that America was founded upon and want to assist those adversely affected in these precarious times.

That’s why throughout the month of February, Wingz is offering free rides from airports to those who were directly affected by the travel ban and are now able to re-enter the country. This would be in any market where they offer service. Contact Wingz directly at ask@wingz.com and they will help you (or someone you know) who is impacted—set up a ride home.

New Features. New Look. New Wingz for 2016.
Improved booking flow and design – They removed any unnecessary screens and clutter to focus solely on the vital info.
Enhanced search functionality – Made it easier to find the pick-up and drop-off destinations you’re looking for.
New suggested pick-up time – Better leveraging your flight info to suggest an ideal pick-up time.

Atlanta
The city council is still debating the issue and we still have no word on if it’s completely legal for Uber or any rideshare to pick you up at airport. One article said it may not be until July 2016. One thing I noticed before is that the app had the option to select the door you were needing to get picked up at (N4, S5, etc). Although, It’s usually quicker if you cross the first street and get picked up on the outer street near the shuttle buses if it comes up at all in the airport area.

Austin
We recommend Wingz to pick up and drop off passengers at Austin-Bergstrom airport in Texas who is offering $1 Rides for new sign-ups. Uber and Lyft have now suspended services in Austin due to City Council regulations. if you wish to hail a taxi TO the airport you can use Curb.

Baltimore-Washington
UberX and Lyft are technically not supposed to operate at BWI but new rules are coming.

California
LAX
Los Angeles just became the largest city in the nation to open the door for companies such as Uber and Lyft to fully operate alongside taxis at the airport. Ready for ‪#‎LyftOff‬! Travelers can now be picked up and dropped off at LAX on the Upper/Departures level only. Use code: FLY2015 to get $5 off Two Rides to/from LAX! If you are new to Lyft make sure to sign up here first.
Burbank Bob Hope
A ride-share service can drop you off at Burbank Bob Hope Airport, but it can’t pick you up at the terminal.
Ride-share drivers can wait in the airport’s parking lots for arriving passengers. The airport charges $3 for 30 minutes of parking. Wingz is available for Burbank Pickup.
John Wayne/Orange County
Lyft, Uber and Wingz have acquired permits. Their will be an additional fee of $2.25 for each pickup.
Long Beach
Anyone may drop off passengers at Long Beach airport, but ride-share drivers can’t pick up passengers at the terminal. Wingz is available.

Chicago Ride Hailing App Alternatives

Curb___ChicagoChicago is trying to regulate rideshare to be more like taxis. Uber and Lyft may be safe for now but Chicago is threatening fingerprinting drivers while they are threatening to pull out of the city if they do. Uber and Lyft have waged regulatory battles in several high profile locales including New York, Broward County, and neither company is currently operating in Austin due to a recent fingerprinting requirement imposed by the city council. Chicago is the third largest city in the US with close to 3 million people and 90,000 rideshare drivers so this will be a huge loss in revenue to both companies if they do pull out. Chicago is three times bigger than Austin.

If Uber and Lyft pulled out of Chicago, it could be a huge opportunity for new startups such as Juno out of NYC or Fasten in Boston and Austin to expand their territory.

Arro and Curb are two taxi-hailing apps that operate in Chicago. DivvyRide is a company that looks like a rideshare app but they actually require livery plates.

Curb is now an official taxi app for the City of Chicago covering Cook, DuPage, and southern Lake counties. Curb can take you wherever you need to go in Chicago. From Navy Pier to Green Mill, your Curb driver will expertly navigate the city to serve you.

Via is an app that started in NYC as an alternative to transit. They have now expanded to Chicago area (read more here).
